"GET RIGGIN' WITH IT!"
The Adventist Media Center in Simi Valley is good to go.
We completed our installation of the lighting and rigging systems for Studio 1 and 2, including massive cycloramas, by the end of January. Now, the Seventh Day Adventist Church of North America will use the facility as its primary electronic media production unit.
Working very closely with the owners, LVH provided a design/build package to install a 70' x 88' pipe grid into Studio 1 and a 47' x 62' grid into Studio 2. Both grids were custom designed to suit the lighting system and employed LVH's custom GB1515 grid clamps. The GB1515 grid clamp is manufactured in the LVH metal shop and is used to brace the cross-sections of a grid.
The clamp has a certified safe working load limit of 600 lbs. and has been independently pull tested to an excess of 10,000 lbs. Lightweight, durable and easy to install, these clamps help keep costs down and insure a safe and attractive studio lighting grid.
LVH also installed 52 self climbing hoists into studio 1 of the media complex. The Desisti hoists are configured to accommodate 2 or 4 Entertainment Technologies IPS dimmers strips with 2 universes of DMX on each hoist. The 8500 series hoists are used for general purpose studio lighting while the 8750 series hoists were used to light the massive cycloramas also installed by LVH.
All of the hoists have over 25' of travel allowing them to be conveniently lowered to the floor for ease of fixture hang and maintenance. The entire system is run by the innovative Desisti 5400 HRC digital control system which is fully computerized for the precision synchronization of a multiple hoist system such as this.
The last stage of the project was the installation of a 360 degree double curtain track around the perimeter of the studios to accommodate various velour drapes and a green Digital Key drop. Also provided and installed by LVH was a massive 25' high x 190' wide seamless grey Leno cloth cyclorama in studio 1 and an equally impressive 27' high x 105' wide seamless Leno cyc in studio 2. Both cycs were personally inspected before leaving the manufacturer by LVH Rigging Specialist, Harvey Sweet.
"We went through every inch, top to bottom, to make sure there wasn't as much as one thread out of place," said Harvey. With over 40 years of experience in the theatrical industry, Harvey is extremely happy with the outcome.
This is yet another example of the diverse flexibility LVH has to offer as a full-service theatrical systems integrator. LVH contributes years of expertise to every aspect of an installation project.
For the Seventh Day Adventist Media Center's new studio facilities, LVH worked with the manufacturers, other contracted trades, the architect, and, most importantly, the customer to insure a proper installation and a complete integrated system.
